Mito had enough snow on Sunday morning to make everything look beautiful. I got up at 6AM and set out on foot with my Nikon. The main gate of Kairakuen park was open at 7AM and I spent time photographing the Kobuntei, bamboo grove and plum trees, many of which are in bloom. In the neighbouring Tokiwa shrine a member of staff warned me to watch my step as he swept snow from the path leading under the torii gate. Skirting Lake Senba on my way home I passed a delinquent snowman, cigarette hanging from a lower lip.

My fingers and toes froze but it was a good day out.
